A Delicate Task: Teaching and Learning
This day long workshop introduces the merits of the Montessori method to people who are new to the philosophy and provides an opportunity for Montessori teachers to reenergize as they think deeply about their approach to the basic tenets of the Montessori philosophy. Dr. Catherine McTamaney, award winning Montessori teacher and Director of Undergraduate Education at Vanderbilt University, will lead us through Maria Montessori’s tendencies of humans offering a framework for understanding human development through eleven unique traits that influence us across our lifetimes. This workshop will introduce the tendencies, detailing how they are visible in the environments we prepare for children and, equally importantly, the way we lead our lives as adults. Building from lessons learned in Dr. McTamaney's book, The Tao of Montessori, we will consider structures through which we can think about our spiritual preparation as teachers and increase our compassion for children and each other on the path.
